LM5018: The difference of efficiency between LM5018 and LM5019

Guru 29710 points
Part Number: LM5018
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LM5019

Hi Team,

The datasheet shows efficiency of LM5019 is better than LM5018 under load current < 100mA.

Left: LM5018,  Right: LM5019

On the other hand, Rdson is absolutely the same value between these devices.

Could you tell me what is caused efficiency difference?

Best Regards,
Yaita / Japan disty

  • Hi Yaita,

the used inductor can be different. Let me dig into it and get back to you.

  • Hi Robert-san,

I appreciate for your kind support.
I will wait for your update.

  • Hi Yaita-san,

Please notice that the plots use different load ranges 100mA versus 300mA. If you compare the plots at 100mA load point the efficiency is only marginal different on the LM5019 plot. A efficiency difference at light loads can come for example by the used inductor or any slight differences on the used PCB configuration e.g. total resistance of the feedback divider or any differences in the test setup. You should expect similar efficiencies with total identical test setups.
