BQ24171: one question about the temperature qulificaiton

Part Number: BQ24171

Hi,

Our customer has a question bout below description on datasheet.

What's different for the initiate charge cycle and the during charger cycle?

Why the threshold is same VT1 and VT5?

Can you give some comments about it?

 Thanks.

  • With the charge current, the battery temperature could go up a little bit.
"To initiate a charge cycle" means converter from non-switching to switching. The temperature range should be a little bit narrow to give some margin for the temperature rise with charging current.
"During the charge cycle" means converter switching.
On page 9th, the spec table gives the VT1 and VT5 hysteresis.
  • if we just repower on the charger at high temperature, BQ24171 would start to work below VT5 or below(VT5-HYS)?
  • Oliver,

Look at the hysteresis as a way of going into and out of the fault condition. If you are going into the VT5 fault condition, then VT5 is the threshold (48.1%). When you want to exit the VT5 fault, then the VT5-HYS is the threshold (49.3%).

If you toggle a new charge cycle, it will first look at VT5 threshold to go into the fault, then VT5-HYS to get out of the fault.

    Regards,
    Steven
