I have made a schematic using TINA-TI and simulated to make sure it does as expected. I would use this functionality in many other simulation circuits-so I tried to do a "macro" but do not see any tools to do so even though the u/g talks about making a macro.

Do I have to install a new TINA-TI or is the utility not available in TINA-TI?

Appreciate any clarifications.

Hi Robin,

You do not need to create the macro yourself. We have already done this for you in this case. You can access it directly from here: www.ti.com/.../toolssoftware

Download one of the TINA-TI reference designs (startup is preferable) >> change the schematic to what you want and you should be able to run the simulation from there.

I may not have communicated my issue correctly. I am using TINA-TI as you can tell by following the msg stream. I am using models of a host of ICs in TINA-TI.
But let me state my issue here again- I have modeled a function using some ICs & passive components. I want to repeatedly use this function in many other schematics all of which will be models of various other functions. This can be done my making a "Macro" out of the model I want to reuse. TINA-TI does talk about how to make a micro but these tools are not visible in my installation.
Do you see what I am talking about here?
If one desires to repeatedly use a simulated circuit, how else one can do so other than clear copy-pasting that schematic in every other simulation circuit? This just clutters up a large schematic.
A related question will be: does a Macro so created become a "lib" part?

Hi Robin,

Understood. The feature to create a macro from schematic is only available in the full version of TINA (i.e. TINA-Industrial that can be purchased form DesignSoft). However there is a workaround in TINA-TI though it is not ideal.

Step 1: From TINA-TI schematic, click File >> Export >> Netlist >> For TINA-TI. This will export the netlist of the circuit you are trying to capture as a macro.

Step 2: Next you need to convert this into a subcircuit. The subcircuit should have all the pins that you want exposed in the macro. In this file, please keep only the items you want in the subcircuit (removing any control statements, external testbench components, etc.)

Step 3: Next you can import this model into TINA-TI and create a macro using Tools >> New Macro Wizard >> From File >> Point to this file you have created in Step 2.

Yes the new macro Wizard should work. Kindly make sure you are using the latest version of TINA-TI (9.3.150.328)

Kinda got into trouble!

My schematic has 4 switches, 2 ICs., some resistors & of course capacitors. I can remove the Rs & Cs. I will be left Sw, IC1, Ic2 with inputs & outputs.

As I see it now while importing, it opens up in a window with the whole netlist.

Then when I run the Macro wizard, I enter the .cir

I get a dialog box asking me to choose one of the several subcircuits in the netlist.

I am a bit rusty on old fashioned SPICE syntax(I must have an old u/g somewhere in the house...), so don't remember how to encapsulate all subcircuits in a macro with a name( sequence of I/O pins in order)

Where can I find it in TINA-TI

Hi Robin,

The option to choose a subcircuit when importing the model is shown so that you can tell TINA-TI which is the master subcircuit for which you want to create the symbol (macro). There can be multiple subcircuits in the lib file, but only 1 subcircuit for which you are creating the macro. Internally this master subcircuit can call other subcircuits in that lb file (this is OK).

I don't think there is an issue with enclosing the switches and everything else in a subcircuit. This can still be done if needed. Did you create the netlist? If so can you share this with me along with the TSC file (if not, then please share a dummy file with some components). This will help to answer specific questions that you have.

inputs OUTPUTS INTERCONNECTS FOR

VCC VCS R1(1,2), R15(1,2)

VSS R2(1,2)...NODE R2(2) IS VCS

VAC R16(1,2)

GND R17(1,2)...NODE (2) IS COMMON WITH R15(2) & OPAMP PIN2

R18(1,2)

above are the input, output and which pins of the MACRO will be outside to connect Rs.

To make it general, Rs will be outside the MACRO if this makes sense.

Now, I have a .cir file & .lib file for a circuit I got off the net . Would it be available as a component to place & simulate with?

Here is what I happened with your .cir file: when I use MAcro wizard, select the cir file, I get same dialog box: select a subcircuit... so I selected one...I see a rectangular box with i/o pins...belonging to the Subcir I selected. But we want the whole schematic to get combined into a new "component" which has several subcircuits & parts....how do I do that?
Seems to me, I am not doing something critical operation. right?... for example, defining a box, defining pinouts on the box, "enclosing " the .cir file or "associating" the box with the .cir file...assigning a folder,
What am I missing?

Robin,
The file that you select when creating a macro in TINA-TI is the top level subcircuit. Internally it can refer to any number of subcircuits (which are placed outside the main subcircuit). If you have issues, please share the file that you want to import.

The import process itself should be quite straightforward as described in the videos I referred to earlier.
