UCD3138ACCEVM149: Checksum problem in the Firmware downloading

Part Number: UCD3138ACCEVM149

In the User's Guide Using the UCD3138ACCEVM149 Figure 7, the option 'DO NOT write program checksum' is highlighted.

So what's the exact difference between write the checksum or not write the checksum?

  • If you do not write cheksum after power cycle the device is back in ROM mode.
Meaning that it is garantied to be able to download new firmware.

If you write the checksum after power cycle the ROM calculates the checksum and if it is corrects give the control to the firmware inside the program flash.

We do not recommend to write the checksum during the development before you know that firmware works well. If firmware has a bug and can not pass the control back to ROM, you will not be able to download a new firmware. And you may be forced to replace the UCD chip.
