BQ78350-R1: Is the maximum current the BQ78350 can report 32.767 Amps?

Part Number: BQ78350-R1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ78350, BQ76200, BQ76940,

I have a 2500 Watt smart battery I'm developing using aBQ78350, BQ76940, and a BQ76200. The battery itself is a 15S1P LiFePO4 battery using A123 2500mAH 26650 cells. The battery is capable of discharge at 50 Amps. The BQ76940 in use is capable of measuring and reporting these currents, but it appears the BQ78350 maxes out at 32 Amps. Is this true or is there a gain setting or scale factor I'm missing somewhere?

Thanks for your help,

Steve

  • Hi Steve,
You may have noticed in the technical reference manual the Vscale and IPscale settings in Specification Info, these are intended to keep the current and voltage (and capacity) in the 32767 range. You may also have noticed the e2e post which says don't use IPscale with bq78350-R1, it has some issue. The bq78350-R2 is available for download which fixes the IPscale behavior and adds some features. With the bq78350-R1 you would need to scale current manually, perhaps a divide by 2. See the posts on scaling.
