TPS7A47: Differences between TPS7A4700 and TPS7A4701

Part Number: TPS7A47
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS7A8300, TPS7A83A, TPS783

Hello,

I'm struggling to understand the differences between TPS7A4700 and TPS7A4701. This is a followup to a e2e post last year: https://e2e.ti.com/support/power_management/linear_regulators/f/321/p/587811/2159928

TPS7A4701 provides the added benefit of a feedback pin. The two parts are the same price. Is there a disadvantage to 7A4700?

thank you,
joel

  • Hi Joel,

The only difference is listed in the post you reference. If you are using ANOUT there is no disadvantage to use TPS7A4700; however, since the two parts are the same price, why would you choose not to use TPS7A4701?

If you are using the LDO with a traditional external feedback network you should use TPS7A4701.

    Very Respectfully,
    Ryan
  • Thanks, I believe you answered my question. But I think I should've worded it "is there a disadvantage to using 7A4701".

The TPS7A8300 has the same wording "ANY-OUT version" and "Adjustable version" but there's only one part part number. Unless I'm missing something it seems irrational to have 4700 and 4701 at the same price. i.e. "more features for free and absolutely no drawback"

Sorry for the annoying question. I just want to completely understand. I'm using 9 of these on my design.
  • Hi Joel,

No disadvantage to using TPS7A4701. It actually is the case of more features for free with no drawback. TPS7A4701 is an update to the TPS7A4700 and was done during a period of time when TI placed the update on the same datasheet if the devices were similar enough in performance and operation. Some explanation was added to distinguish anything that was different between the devices.

FYI TPS7A83A is the update to TPS7A8300. Again it is a case of more features for free with no drawbacks as TPS7A83A is more versatile as it does not have any sequencing requirements for Vin, Vbias, and EN. These products do have separate datasheets and product folders.

    Very Respectfully,
    Ryan
  • Oh this is very helpful. Thanks!
We're using the TPS783 too so we will move to the TPS83A.
