UCC28180: Is there any concern if he connects VCOMP pin to input pin of another device (MCU etc.)?

Part Number: UCC28180

Hi Team,

My customer considers to monitor VCOMP state to detect FAULT protection is occured or not.

(datasheet page 15)
8.3.8 FAULT Protection
VCC UVLO, OLP/Standby, ISOP and ICOMPP funtions constitute the fault protection feature in the UCC28180.
Under fault protection, VCOMP pin is pulled low and the device is in standby.

Is there any concern if he connect VCOMP pin to input pin of another device (MCU etc.)?
The input capacitance is 15~30pF in this case.

Yaita / Japan disty

  • Hello Yaita-san
You should use a high impedance buffer on VCOMP in order to do this.
This buffer should be close to the VCOMP pin in order to minimise any noise pickup in the circuit.

Has your customer considered monitoring the GATE output instead of VCOMP?
Obviously there is no gate drive output during a fault event.
And it is easier to measure this digital signal with an MCU and it is less prone to noise pickup.
    Regards
    John
