BQ40Z50-R1: parameters setting issues

Part Number: BQ40Z50-R1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ40Z50

Hi,

We are using BQ40Z50-R1 to design a 3S2P Li-ion battery pack.

We are facing some issues regarding parameters setting.

1. FCC/RSOC drop significantly when the battery is discharged at higher current under the low temperature.

How to adjust the parameters to minimize the drop?

2. RSOC is not compliance with LED display. RSOC=0%, but LED shows 3.

3.When OverCurrent and short-circuit protection kick in, we hope that the battery is not recovered until we remove the it

from the device

I am attaching the log file of low temperature test and also the GG file we use now.

Thank you very much for your help!

  • Hi Joyce,
One of our BMS experts has been assigned to your 2 issues posted today and will answer shortly.

  • Hi Joyce,
I will also address the question from your other thread e2e.ti.com/.../678211 here and close that one.
    1. Chem ID 2012 was only characterized for operation between 10degC to 40degC , so it is possible that the capacity will not be calculated correctly at -20degC. Also since the voltage reaches below he terminate voltage of 8000mV, the Remaining Capacity will be 0 at this point. I would recommend using the chemID 2017 for -20degC application, since that chemID as noted in the 4th column was generated for -20degC operation. In case you are still having issues we also have a low temperature optimization tool at http://www.ti.com/tool/GPCRB
    2. I am not able to duplicate this issue, it seems like the LED operates normally, but if you can send a more complete log with all the flags and status bits, I can check to see if there is something else going on.
    3. Based on your settings, this will not be the case. You have setup the pack to be a Non-removable pack i.e. [NR] bit is set, and the recovery condition for a OCD is a current of -200mA. Normally we recommend the recovery condition for an OCD to be a charge condition to prevent early recovery. For the SCD, it will be based on the SCD Reset time.
    Regards,
    Swami
