BQ25703A: bq25703A / Quiescent current is reduced by disabling Auto Wakeup function

Part Number: BQ25703A

Hi,

The customer would like to reduce quiescent current at PFM mode. And now they tried to disable Auto Wakeup function (AUTO_WAKEUP_EN = 0), then the quiescent current is reduced about 1mA. So please let me ask following question.

[Question]

  1. Please let me know why the quiescent current is reduced by disabling Auto Wakeup function?
  2. Do you have any concern by using with disabling Auto Wakeup? I understand that 128mA charging does not start automatically if the battery is below minimum system voltage.

[Test condition]

  • No battery
  • No load
  • Operate with VBUS

  • 1. The current consumption of auto wakeup is depended on the battery voltage. If the battery voltage is below Vsys_min setting, the charger would provide a small current to Vsrn terminal to bring the battery voltage up to Vsys_min setting. After Vsrn reaches Vsys_min, charging stops and BATDRV off.  So, the BATFET would be turned on and off depending on Vbat voltage.

    2. I don't have any concern about disable the auto wakeup function if the host controller can detect the battery insertion and send command to wake up a deeply discharged battery.

  • Hi Wang,

I tired to measure input current with no battery and no load. Then I could see that BATDRV output goes low at enable AUTOWAKEUP and at this time the input current is increased approx. 0.5mA.

    Best Regards,

    Satoshi
