Hello,

I am working on a project which requires a DC-DC switcher with the following spec:

Input: 12V DC

Output: 9VDC/2.5A

I do care more about the power efficiency and heat generation than the cost.

The PCB footage available is about 400 mm^2

With WEBENCH, I chose TPS54824RNVR. But I need experts’ review before going further.

Hi Dennis,

Overall the schematic looks good.

I suggest looking at the lower current TPS54424. With the TPS54424 WEBENCH will suggest a slightly lower fsw because we put in more conservative limits to limit the duty cycle to avoid drop out. When both parts start to enter drop out you will see fsw start to decrease to keep the DC output voltage regulated. The TPS54424 frequency starts decreasing when the off-time starts to be <200 ns and the TPS54824 with off-time <100 ns.

One thing to look out to look out for with a high duty cycle design like this is the transient response. Do you have a specific transient response requirement in this application? It would be good to check this with a simulation within WEBENCH or in TINA.

I didn't think about the drop- out, but I will check it along with the transient response as your advice.
I will look into TPS54424, too.
