TPS92518EVM-878: Shunt FET dimming circuit

Part Number: TPS92518EVM-878

Hello again TI,

My strobing application requires the shunt FET circuitry  to minimize the inductor current rise/fall-times for short LED on-times

1) Why was the TPS92518EVM-878 not provisioned with the shunt FET circuitry and at minimum a BOM allowing the customers who want to leverage the “shunt FET” can populate the circuitry?

2) I have a lot of Shunt FET, integration discussion/questions such that it is impractical to attempt using this textual question & response forum.  I would like to conduct a teleconference.  How can we make this happen?

Thanks!

  • Hello Craig,

I believe the shunt FET circuitry was removed from the EVM for simplicity. But a FET can be cluged on for testing.

There is a lot of information in the 518 datasheet regarding shunt FET dimming and how to adjust the maximum off time if needed with equations. But if you would like you can send me a friend request so that we can private message with contact information.

    Regards,

    Clint

  • Yes, I would like to take you up on that offer. I have read all the information in 518 as well as demo board datasheets and still have questions. I'll ask my regional sales representative how I can send a private message with contact info.
