BQ78350-R1: How to set the FET temperature protection value?

Part Number: BQ78350-R1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ78350, BQ76930, BQSTUDIO,

Our solution is : bq78350+bq76930

bq76930 supports 2 thermistors. we set the TS2 to be theFET temperature sensor, by setting Temperature Mode=02. Then the FET Temperature=TS2 showing at Register.

You know the FET temperature is always higher than Cell temperature during DSG or CHG.

But i don't know where to set the FET Temperature protection values by the bqstudio, there is only cell temperature protection settings, as OTC, OTD.

tks.

  • Hi Ken,
The bq78350-R1 has a method to use a thermistor for the FET temperature measurements, see section 2.4.1 of the technical reference manual, www.ti.com/.../sluubd3, but it does not have a protection for the FET temperature. The host would need to recognize the condition and reduce load or increase cooling in response.
  • Hi WM 5295,

    Thanks for your quick answer.

I want to confirm that the FET and Cell temperature protection are using the same protection point during DSG and CHG?

    Tks.

  • Hi Ken,
I see my answer was incorrect.
The FET temp may be useful for the host, but in section 3.7.5 of the technical reference it does show the over temperature FET protection threshold (OTF). It is the same threshold for discharge or charge.
The cell temperature is different between charge and discharge. See the technical reference section 3.7.1 and 3.7.2 for over temperature, sections 3.7.3 and 3.7.4 for under temperature.
