BQ35100: Battery swap detection?

Part Number: BQ35100

If one were to use bq35100 in a system with coin cells (LiMnO2), what is the preferred way to detect that the battery was replaced?

I saw one post about repeatedly toggling GE pin until SOH stabilizes if running in SOH mode.

Would it make sense to run in EOS mode on demand and then use that to determine that we are getting close to the end of battery life instead?

Mainly concerned with detecting the tail end of the battery and giving sufficient warning to the user, though having SOC before then would be nice too
