BQ25606: Frequency of STAT pin

Part Number: BQ25606

Team,

Please see below customer question:

There appears to be two actual modes, 2Hz (no battery), 1 Hz (no thermistor).  Can you verify the chip is supposed to do this

Application/background:

Designing a charging base with the BQ25606. On the evaluation board we noticed behavior on the STAT pin that is not documented on the datasheet.  If there is not a battery connected, the STAT pin toggles at around 2 Hz.

If the jumper located on the resistor (that simulates the thermistor) is pulled, the STAT pin toggles at around 1 Hz.

I am trying to drive LED’s that indicate the state of the charger.  What is the specified timing range of the STAT pin in these two conditions?

  • Hi,

In both cases, the IC behaves as expected.

    1. For TS fault, the charger blinks at 1Hz as indicated in the datasheet.

    2. For no battery, the charger doe not treat this as a fault. Instead, the charger will charge the BAT battery up and then terminate. After termination, BAT capacitor discharge and recharge is triggered. The oscillation occurs between recharge and termination, as a result, the LED blinks due to the oscillation. The LED frequency is not fixed at 2Hz depending on BAT capacitance and leakage current on BAT.
