TLV62568: Operating efficiency at light load conditions?

Hello,

I am planning to use the TLV62568 for stepping down voltage from 5V to 3.3V.

My load current fall under 500mA, which I feel would be the light load conditions for TLV62568 as its Iout is 1A.

In the design created using WEBENCH, the efficiency curves were upward of 85%

that efficiency is acceptable for me.

I have only few questions;

Q1. Dose the TLV62568 runs efficiently at light load conditions?

Q2. If not, what could be suitable replacement boost converter with higher efficiency at light load operation?

Q3. TPS62082 in WEBENCH design showed better light load efficiency, is it more suitable that TLV62568?

Thanks for inquiring on this product.

Q1. Please have a look at this webench design below, because the 85% efficiency you mention is not what you really can obtain.

when you step down 5V to 3.3V you reach almost 93% efficiency with the TLV62568 at 100mA and 95% and 500mA!

Q2. why are you asking for a boost converter if you need to step the voltage down?

Q3. again, I think you are using different inputs. please check this webench design for the TPS62082

you will see that the efficiency is 5% LESS than the TLV62568

After going through all the WEBENCH design I have come to the conclusion that TLV62568 is most suitable for my low load current application,

for a detailed response. It clarified my doubts. About the Q2, it should have been,

Q2. what could be suitable replacement buck converter with higher efficiency at light load operation?

Can you please help me with Q2?

To answer your question, you must specify a couple of things:
what's your target efficiency and at which load?
