UC2825: Higher frequency PUSH-PULL for GaN

Part Number: UC2825
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LM25037

With the apparent release of GaN, SiC, higher frequency ferrites and so on, I currently using UC2825 for push-pull power supply which work with wide range VIN (DC) with stable VOUT (buck-boost sense), the switching is around 150Khz to 250KHz which I cannot go higher due to MOSFET losses. The benefits of higher frequency is reduced ferrite size.

I'm looking for alternative UC2825 than can work to 500-2Mhz frequency. I know UC2825 is rated to 1MHz but concerned with power dissipation when driving hard to MOSFET.

Can you advise list of device that could replace UC2825, ideally without thermal shutdown?

  • Hi Richard,

The LM25037, www.ti.com/.../lm25037.pdf, is rated to 2MMHz. It does have thermal shutdown but its set at 165C so it should not interfere with normal operation within rated limits.

In most cases isolated designs do not extend above 1MHz so I would have thought a 1MHz oscillation would suffice. The UCC2808 is good to 1MHz and it does not have any thermal shutdown.

At high frequencies it good practice to drive the IC's locally with gate drive IC's to minimise gate drive voltage oscillations.
