TINA/Spice/TPS92630-Q1: TPS92630-Q1 Sim ckt

Part Number: TPS92630-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TINA-TI

Tool/software: TINA-TI or Spice Models

Customer sent us this asking how he can get the single LED short detection to work (attached, best to open with notepad++). He would like a response by Friday. Is there anything we can do to support this?

Regards,

Kevin

  • To add to this I am seeing the same problem with the unencrypted spice model. I am only using output 1 and trying to do a single LED short and full short by using a time controlled switch in TINA that closes after 500us. Pictures below:

    a) single LED short schematic -

You can see that when the LED is shorted Vout drops 1 LED Vf and the current is now all going through the short, as expected but Fault_S does nothing.

    b) All LEDs shorted

Again everything goes as expected, except the fault pin is never pulled low. When the short occurs all current passes through the short and Vout drops to 0V.

What can be done to fix this?

    Regards,

    Kevin

  • Hi Kevin,

The reason that you cannot see the fault reported is that the fault detection deglitch time is 2ms. So the FAULT won't be pulled low within 2ms. If you set the simulation time longer than 2ms, you can see the FAULT pulled down. I used your simulation file and did the simulation again. Please refer to the results below (short condition).

    Best regards,

    Shirley He

  • Hi Kevin,

Sorry for missing the simulation results.

  • I am still seeing incorrect stuff on my simulation even when I increase the time scale:

I always see the FAULT pin pulled low even if I remove the short. Do you know what is causing that?

Then when I put the single LED short back the Fault_SB is never pulled low still (edit: once I made it so the short happened before 2ms before the FAULT was pulled low it would report the FAULT_S pin. I still dont understand why the FAULT is always pulled low after ~2.2ms)

  • Hi Kevin,

When a single-LED short or output short to GND is detected, it will need another power cycle or toggling EN to recover when fault is removed. That is to say, the device will be latched. This is how we design for this device.

    Best regards,
    Shirley He
