TPS22960: What happens if this part is used @95C Ambient

Part Number: TPS22960

Hi Team,

We want to use this IC at 95C ambient temperature and 400mA/channel current. From our Calculations, the Junction temperature  comes to be less than 125C.

According to datasheet, the Max Ambient temperature is 85C and Max Junction temperature is 125C. Can we so operate that ambient is more than datasheet Absolute Max and Junction temperature is less than the Abs Max.

Regards,

Praveen GD

  • Hi Praveen,

As long as the junction temperature is kept below 125°C, then the device will be okay. The ambient temperature rating is what we guarantee our parameters at, but the device will not be damaged with a junction temperature below 125°C.

Please note that this means the on-resistance may be slightly higher than listed in the datasheet for the full temperature range. As long as you give yourself a bit of margin in your calculations then there should be no issue.

    Thanks,
