BQ2004: How to config BQ2004 always in trickle charging mode?

Part Number: BQ2004
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ24725A, BQ24610, BQ24170

Hi E2E support team,

Our customer request 4 cells 1520mAh NiMH pack(4S1P: 1.2Vx4 = 4.8V) with trickle charging supported. Please advise how to config BQ2004 with default trickle charging mode (Ie. charging period: 30 hrs).

Power adaptor is 12V input, do we need a 5V LDO for BQ2004 Vcc input?

How to config the BQ2004 to control power path? Battery automatically backup if the power adaptor not exist. When power source presents, charger will perform the trickle charge . Your reply will be highly appreciated.

Thanks,

James Chen

  • Yes. BQ2004 Vcc input need a 5V LDO from the 12V input.
bq2004 doesn't integrate the power path control. You have to design your own power path control.
Or, you can pick a power path control part (bq24170, bq24610, bq24725A...) and control NiMH charging profile by a host controller. I hope this application note can help you a little bit. www.ti.com/lit/an/slua843/slua843.pdf
