BQ78350-R1: BQ78350-R1 AOLDL issue

Part Number: BQ78350-R1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ76920, , BQSTUDIO

Dear all,

I use bq76920+bq78350-r1 for 5S1P 18650 application,

I have finished I,V,T calibration successfully, and all parameters are accuracy.

The Battery Management Studio will show AOLD information at  registers window when i use 2A discharge as below

Although i release OCD at 5A as below

I can not find where can i modify AOLD parameters to increase protection point?

Btw, as i know all useful parameters(calibration, fcc, protection point, protection behavior....,etc) can be set up by "Battery Management Studio".

I do not know what parameters must be set up by "bq769X0 Evaluation Software"

thanks.

  • Hi Chiayuan ,
Thank you for your interest in our products. A BMS expert has been assigned to your question.

    Regards,
    David
  • Hi Chiayuan,
AOLD threshold should be set using the AOLD "Threshold and delay" parameter shown near the bottom of the second picture, it is presently the default 00. To determine the setting you will need your sense resistor value. Refer to the "Protect 2" register in the bq76920 data sheet table 7-10. With the setting above it will protect at 8 mV in 8 ms. Pick a threshold and delay appropriate for your system.
Also consider the ASCD "Threshold and delay" which is also shown as the default 00 above. See table 7-9 of the bq76920 data sheet to select a value. Typically you want a fast response time to short circuit.
  • Dear WM5295,
Thank you for your reply, I want to use "0xf" code of OCD_T3 for increasing OCD protection point, but this value will always auto recovery to default "00", although i use "update display" and save configuration then reload. This command can not write into the IC. How can i modify the value in bq76920 register?
    thanks & best regards.
  • Hi Chiayuan,
The parameter must be changed in the bq78350-R1 data memory. It is the 6th parameter up from the bottom in your picture above, the AOLD "Threshold and delay". You must change it in bqStudio just like any other data memory parameter.
If you use the other tool to change in the bq769x0 the bq78350-R1 will recognized that it has been changed and change it back to the "Threshold and delay" value. The description of the Protect registers was not copied to the bq78350-R1 documentation, it just refers you to the bq769x0 data sheet for the description.
  • Hi WM5295,
Thank you for your information, i change the AOLD value successfully in bq78350-r1 tools,
I want to clarify the last thing that "bq769X0 Evaluation Software" only for monitor the status what value is changed in "Battery Management Studio". User can not change value in "bq769X0 Evaluation Software", is it correct?
  • Hi Chiayuan,
Correct, the bq769x0 Evaluation Software may be useful to check register values for debug. It should not generally be used with the bq78350-R1 because of the potential for bus collisions and conflicts with the bq78350-R1 register control.
