How to convert a 2 pair PoE to a 4 pair PoE

Hello,

I intend to connect my Odroid xu4 to the TPlink EAP110 outdoor access point using PoE, so I can access my Odroid wirelessly over a longer range. The EAP110 outdoor needs a 4 pair PoE input, whereas, I am limited to a 2 pair PoE cable due to a 5-wire slipring between the Odroid and EAP110 outdoor. See image below.

Can someone advise on what equipment I can use to split a 2 pair PoE to a 4 pair PoE ? Due to space constraints, looking for small sized equipment.

Thanks

Gary

  • Hi Gary,

From a power prospective, you can short 2 2-pair wiring together to get 4-pair; unfortunately, however from a PoE prospective, there's no way to guarantee that when the Ethernet cable is connected to PD, it will successfully do detection and classification. In which case injector wouldn't even power up to PoE.
  • Hi Darwin, Thanks for your reply. I was advised to connect the POE output on the injector to the POE input on the EAP110 using the 5 wire limitation on the slipring, and 4-pair input requirement of the EAP110 as follows. And it works. Solved. Cheers.
