BQ24650EVM-639: Electrical Connections

Hi, I am using this charge controller in cohesion with solar cells to charge a 2s LiPo Battery and just have a couple questions about all the connections

1) For J1, I am assuming that the positive end of the solar array gets connected to the Vin port and the negative end gets connected to the PGND? 

2) For J2, does the Vsystem port get attached to the positive port on the LiPo battery and Vout get attached to the negative port, and PGND simply get grounded? We are not using the TS port for our application. 

3) I replaced R6 so that the output current output is 5A compared to the factory setting of 2A. In the Manual it says I need to replace L1 but it also says L1 is rated for 7A so do I still need to replace the inductor?

  • Regarding 1, yes.
    Regarding 2, VSYS is to connect to any system load you have. VOUT should connect to the positive terminal of the battery, negative terminal of the battery can be connect to PGND. Please refer to the EVM user guide for reference.
    Regarding 3, please refer to the datasheet. best stability occurs when the LC resonant frequency, fo, is approximately 12 kHz to 17 kHz for bq2461x. Please use the values in table 4 for optimal performance.
