TPS40170: TPS40170 with BSC039N06NS

Part Number: TPS40170
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LM5145

Hello,

I am going to design DC-DC convertor with input range Uin = 15-30V and output voltage Uout = 3,3V/35A. And I would like to use TPS40170 with transistor BSC039N06NS. I would like to use two transistor for HDRV and LDRV switching for better thermal performance (see. schematic.png).

Is the TPS40170 suitable for drive this transistor in dual mode or not?

Best Regards, Tomas.

  • hello Tomas,

Yes you can use the FETs as shown, I recommend using the LM5145 as an alternative to the TPS40170 as it is is a new part released last year.

    Hope this helps?

    David.
  • Hello David,

Thank you very much for your help. I will be cogitate for the LM5145. Do you think that the LM5145 have better EMC/EMI performance that TPS40170? We will be have the 86,79MHz receiver near this DC/DC source (receiver have own board and will be about 1-3m from this source).

  • Hello Tomas,

I don't think there will be issues with either in this regards. EMI should be mitigated with the following considerations.

    1. a Layout in strict accordance with the guidelines stipulated n the datasheet.
    2. Place holders for Top side Gate resistor to slow down transition times of the Top FET.
    3. Place RC snubber from Vsw to Gnd
    4. Placeholder for CM/DM filtering at the input side of the power stage.
    5. Use a shielded inductor

    Hope this helps?

    David.
