BQ24610: QA check

Part Number: BQ24610

Dear all.

Our customer ask about device working at the time of the case of the following trouble.
1.What kind of work does the bq24610 charger when high-side FET is short (low side FET is normal)?
2.What kind of work does the bq24610 charger when low-side FET is short (high side FET is normal)?
3.What kind of work does the bq24610 charger when low-side FET is open (high side FET is normal)?
4.What kind of work when protected with the thermistor acted? (High-side off only?)
5.When the inductor is short, is low-side FET turned on?
6.When a device is broken, is there the protection for the battery?
7.What kind of work when RAC is shorted?
8.Is there the short detection of RAC?

Regards,
PAN-M

  • Regarding 1 and 2, the bq24610 does not have MOSFET short detection.

Regarding 3, when low side FET is open, converter stops working.

Regarding 4, when the battery pack temperature is outside of the charge window (TS voltage is outside of operation window), the converter is off and charge is suspended.

Regarding 5, bq24610 does not have inductor short detection. It is achieved by a secondary cycle-to-cycle overcurrent protection. It monitors the charge current, and prevents the current from exceeding 160% of the programmed charge current. The high-side gate drive turns off when the overcurrent is detected, and automatically resumes when the current falls below the overcurrent threshold.

Regarding 6, we always recommend use the chargers battery protection as secondary protection. The primary protection should be the battery internal protection. When the charge is damaged, it should be relied on the battery internal protector or gauge for battery protection.

Regarding 7 and 8, there is no RAC short protection. The max input current limit is limited by 100mV voltage drop across the sense resistor. If RAC is shorted, then IINDPM function will not work.
