TPS568215: Output short-circuit withstand

Part Number: TPS568215

Since the buck regulators with D-CAP2/D-CAP3 control mode only limit the current in the low side MOSFET, I suppose these regulators do not withstand output short-circuit. Could you confirm that?

Thank you,

Antenor

  • Hi,

When output shorted, current is limited the output voltage tends to drop because the load demand is higher than what the converter can support. When the output voltage falls below a certain threshold of the target Vout voltage, the UVP comparator detects it and shuts down the device after a wait time, then the device re-starts after a hiccup time, typically several ms. The hiccup mechanism protects the D-CAP devices from short damage.
  • Hi Iven,

    Thank you very much.
