About PFC Controller with dithering function

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: UCC28019A, UCC28180, UCC28070

Hi,

Does TI have PFC Controller with clock dithering (spread spectrum) function?
Is it correct with the understanding that the following devices do not have this function?

・UCC28019A
・UCC28180

Specific product image is the following.
・R2A20104
・FA5610
Could you give me your advice?

Best Regards,
Yusuke/Japan Disty

  • Hello Yusuke-san

You are correct, the UCC28019A nor the UCC28180 do not have a dither function.

    The UCC28019A is a fixed 65kHz operation
The UCC28180 frequency is set externally by a resistor. It should be possible to add some extra circuitry at the FREQ pin (pin 4) to modulate the frequency externally, but I have not done this.

The UCC28070 is a two phase interleaved CCM PFC controller which does have a dither feature built in.

There is a technical description of dithering at www.ti.com/.../slup269.pdf

My own opinion is that dithering is of limited benefit - careful attention to PCB layout and filter design is much more important.

    Regards
