BQ25120: charge current 60mA but want I sys current limit to be 500mA

Part Number: BQ25120

Hi Team,  Is this possible with the BQ25120 or another part?

I would but unfortunately all the ones with I2C control in TI’s range cannot do 60mA or less charging current, or the input current limit (power path), including tolerance, is ~400mA – I would need 500mA minimum. Input voltage would be 5V nominal.

Not having I2C interface would be the first thing to trade-off but that causes other problems in terms of available GPIO pins and implemented functions (mains disconnected detection). So not having it would not be great either.

Perhaps another trade-off could be not having power path and to have discrete input current limit.

Please let me know if there is something I have missed.

  • BQ25120 can be operated in standalone mode. However, I2C gives a lot more configurability.

The ILIM is 500mA but if you wanted a large load, the battery can supplement the load. Are you looking for a 500mA charge current or system load?
