LP8758-E0: Recommended Operating Conditions of Junction and Ambient temperature

Part Number: LP8758-E0

Hi,

Is it necessary to use both Ta and Tj at the maximum value or less?

I understand that it is necessary to observe the recommended range of Tj in order to guarantee operation.
For Ta, we believe that operation is guaranteed if Tj does not exceed 125 ℃ even if Ta exceeds the max value, is it correct?
I would like to know the background with Ta's recommended range.

Best regards,
Yuto Sakai

  • Hello Sakai-san,

    Both the Junction temperature and the Ambient temperature are linked to each other. It is recommended to follow the maximum specification for both the Junction and Ambient temperature for proper operation.  Please take a look at this App Note for further details.

  • Hi Yuto,

      For the statement "Tj does not exceed 125 ℃ even if Ta exceeds the max value", you're right only in the conditions of followings:

    1. Very light load which has not much IR drop inside;
    2. The heat caused by the IR drop can be fully dissipated;
    3. When Tj rises up to the Ta, and it reaches the balance point, doesn't rise up any more.

       From 3 conditions listed above, you can find they're very tight to meet, so, max Ta is recommended to make sure operation properly in certain level of load; even so, good heat dissipation design is also needed to make sure Tj never exceeds the max value.

    Thanks!
