TPS23861: Does EA certification involve surge testing

Part Number: TPS23861

I received a flyer with the title "Ethernet Alliance Certified, Power over Ethernet (PoE) Power Sourcing equipment (PSE)". Under that title was "Surge Protection". The main body text was headed 6 kV Lightning Surge Reference Design" and covered the TPS23861 PSE controller. As written it is implied that the EA Certification applies the the 6 kV surge. My confusion is that I understood the EA Certification list covered inter-operability, but does not cover surge, the 500 V insulation resistance test and AC power cross testing. Thus my question is if the EA testing was extended to cover the 6 kV surge testing as the standard EA test plan doesn't cover surge.

  • Hi MICHAEL,

You are right. the EA certification doesn't include surge testing but only PoE compliance testing. The flyer promotes our 6kV PSE reference design which recently got certified by EA. Thanks.

    Best regards,

    Penny
