TPS54620: Measuring the Thermal Performance, about App note SLVA397

Part Number: TPS54620

In App note "SLVA397", 300uA current is used for measurement of forward voltage drop of body diode.

How did you decide this current level? Is it needed to change current level If we measure another device? or 300uA is enough?

Best Regards,
Kohei Sasaki

  • Sasaki-san,
SLVA397 was derived from an earlier application note I authored in 2005. www.ti.com/.../slva201.pdf

I used the same 300 uA bias current that I had used previously. That was 13 years ago, but if i recall correctly, you want to force a constant current that is high enough to get the diode forward voltage into the linear range and low enough to contribute minimal self heating due to power dissipation. Generally, I think 300 uA is a good number for these type measurements.
