BQ24095: If the charger occur hot fault or cold fault, how to reset the charger?

Part Number: BQ24095

Hi, Team

Customer has a project that selected BQ24095 as system charger.

We have a question to thermal protection.

If the temperature over 45C, charger occur hot/cold fault, the charger will be terminated.

Then the temperature lower than 40C, what is the charger behavior? Will it reset by itself or we need to do the power cycle reset?

  • Hello
Yes the device will restart charge after the temp returns to normal.
  • Hi, Bill

If the BQ24095 is charging the battery then over temperature be occurred.

Could you please help to explain the CHG pin behavior? Will it keep low or change to high?

We still couldn't understand Table 1 description for CHG pin.

  • During the first charge CHG is low (LED ON).  If a temp fault is set during that time the CHG will stay low (LED ON), does not change.

After charge is complete CHG will go high (LED OFF).  If battery voltage drops below V-RCH, this is about 100mV below charge complete voltage the charge will restart but CHG stays high (LED OFF).  On a recharge CHG stays high.  During this time a temp fault can be set but CHG does not change.
