TPS22916: reverse current protect

Hi Sir,

On TPS22916, it have a reverse current protect function when the device is enable.

My question is:

1. if the TPS22916 is disable and Vout have a higher voltage, will there be a current flow from Vout to Vin?

2. If 1 is yes, how many current that will flow from Vout to Vin?

3. if there is 0V on input and 3.8V on the output, will there be a current flow through Vout to Vin?

Hi Patrick,

The TPS22916 has reverse current blocking functionality when either enabled or disabled. Even if VIN=0V and VOUT=3.8V, the I_IN,RCB (reverse leakage) spec is less than 1uA.

Hi Alek,

One thing I do not understand, on the spec, there is a "RCB Activation Current" which is 500mA.

May I know what is the difference between "RCB Activation Current" and "VIN Reverse Leakage Current"?

Hi Patrick,

RCB activation current is the amount of reverse current required across the device when it is on to enable the reverse current blocking and turn the FET off. The device is looking for a voltage drop from VOUT to VIN so that RCB can be enabled. When the device is on, it takes that amount of current across the on-resistance of the device to cause that voltage drop.

VIN leakage current is the current that leaks across to VIN when RCB is active.
