LM76003: About LM76003

Part Number: LM76003

Hi

My customer will evaluate LM76003.

There are the possible the voltage of 5.5V is applied SW terminal without voltage applied to the PVIN because they evaluate latter block of LM76003 without supply it.
Absolute Maximum Ratings of  SW terminal  is -0.3V ~ Vin+0.3V in datasheet.
So I think that my customer's usage method doesn't  observe description of datasheet.
Is this understanding correct?
If this understanding is correct, are there the possible breaking this device by that usage method?

Best regards,
Yokota
  • First of all, I'd recommend to limit the current from the 5.5V supply.

If there's open circuit at the input side of the LM76003, then the 5.5V will charge up the Cins to 5.5V-Vdiode and current flow will stop. Then it should be safe with current limiting on 5.5V supply.

If there's a current path from Vin of LM76003 to somewhere and current can constantly flow through the internal FET body diode, it might damage the FET, depending on the current level. The part is not designed to operate in such mode.

    Hope it helps.
