BQ24250: Terminating a charge cycle early

Part Number: BQ24250

In our design, we have the BQ24250 CE# pin strapped low.  It appears that at POR, this automatically kicks off a charge cycle.  If we try to disable charging via an I2C write to register 2, bit 1, we are not able to stop the device from charging.  It appears to continue the cycle until it completes.  At that point, we see charging cease.

Can you confirm that CE# strapped low always initiates a charge cycle when VIN clears UVLO?  Also, is there any way to terminate a charge cycle in mid-stream?

Thanks,

Mike

  • Hey Mike,

After a full POR, the charger will restart a charge cycle. This is expected as all I2C settings return default AND the /CE pin is tied LOW.

However, I am more curious about the I2C control of Register #2 [1]. Flipping this bit should have control of the charging and allow you to disable charge at any point you desire. Can you provide a register dump of the charger (all registers) BEFORE and AFTER you flip the bit.

Again, I will mention that if the charger POR's again after setting the bit, there will be a reset to default settings.

    Regards,
