TPS61165: Chip fails during ESD testing

I am testing a device that requires this chip in order to drive an LED backlight. The TPS61165 has been failing during ESD testing. The failure occurs during air discharge testing. I am looking for a good way to protect this device from the ESD discharges since this device is part of the test setup, not the device we are trying to test. I have tried using inductance in the LED connections, but this does not allow the circuit to work. I added a 24V TVS diode to the LED output, but this also failed.

How is the device failing - damaged or disabling the output?

You might try two TVS diodes, one from LED cathode to chassis ground and another from LED anode to chassis ground; this diverts the ESD energy away from the drive circuit. One TVS across the LED is really only protecting the LED.

Please try to connect TVS from LED to chassis ground to bypass ESD current.
