TPS23880: Recommended for new designs?

Part Number: TPS23880
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BOOST-PSEMTHR-007, USB2ANY

Hello

We are starting the development of a new product, which will include a PoE-PSE port.

The TPS23880 looks perfect for us, especially because of its support for 802.3bt Type 4.

But we wonder if we should work with this part, as it is marked as preview.

We are developing during this year, and would require to build first 10 and then between 50 and 100 prototypes.

Mass production would start January 2019 (best case scenario; later in all other cases). The order could be placed in advance to fulfill the lead times.

Should we consider this part? We would work on:

- BOOST-PSEMTHR-007 + TPS23880EVM + USB2ANY, as recommended on the website

- Samples for prototypes (the website limits them to 5, but we would need more; first 10, then between 50 and 100). We have no problem to pay for the parts, but the TI distributors in Switzerland don't seem to have them.

- The promise that this part is likely to get released this year, and that mass orders would be possible within the given time frame.

Can you give me advance information on sample requests and lead-times for mass orders.

Thanks for your help, and kind regards,

Roberto Barbieri Carrera

  • Hi Roberto,

Thank you for being interested in TPS23880!

Yes. TPS23880 would be a perfect part for you. Now we are sampling PG1.0 samples. Please request the access(http://www.ti.com/product/TPS23880 ) to the server where we publish datasheet, EVM user's guide, GUI and TPS23880 PG1.0 advisory. Please read TPS23880 APL Advisory and see if you are good with PG1.0 to build your system now. If not, I suggest you first order the EVM to get familiar with TPS23880 and wait for TPS23880 public APL(end of May, PG1.1 samples will be available). Our target RTM date is end of 3Q18. I will contact you offline to follow up with your sample request to make sure we prepare the samples for you. Thanks!

    Bet regards,

    Penny
