BQ34Z100-G1: Cell Term V Delta ?

Part Number: BQ34Z100-G1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ34110

Hi,

We are trying to lock down our chemistry profiles and I didn't want to overlook some areas of question.

Please explain how the following parameters are used in the BQ34Z100-G1 operation as I didn't find a good explanation in the specification.

Gas Gauging>IT Cfg> Cell Term V Delta  (is this added or subtracted from Cell Term V?)

Gas Gauging>IT Cfg> Cell Min DeltaV

Gas Gauging>State>  Cell Delta Voltage

Gas Gauging>IT Cfg> Fast Scale Start SOC

Gas Gauging>IT Cfg> Charge Hys V Shift

And Finally, Are the TCA Set and TCA clear values used in the Impedance tracking algorithm or are the purely just of "Alarm" flag set/reset only?

Thank you in advance!

  • Hi Tim ,
Thank you for your interest in our products. A BMS expert has been assigned to your question.

    Regards,
    David
  • What type of battery are you using? Li-ion?
The TCA bit doesn't affect gauging and are just for alarms.
  • Hi,

We are evaluating a variety of large capacity battery types (80 to over 150 Ahr) including both Pba and LiFePO4 chemistries.

  • Hi Tim,

Gas Gauging>IT Cfg> Cell Term V Delta (is this added or subtracted from Cell Term V?)
=> It is added to Cell Term V. Fast scale is activated when either Voltage < Cell Terminate Voltage + Cell Term V Delta or SOC < Fast Scale Start SOC condition is met.

Gas Gauging>IT Cfg> Cell Min DeltaV
=> Minimum Cell Delta Voltage that is saved during discharge cycle.

    Gas Gauging>State> Cell Delta Voltage
=> This value is learned during discharge cycle and the target voltage of empty battery is Cell Terminate Voltage + Cell Delta Voltage. It allows Terminate Voltage to be set at the minimum operating voltage of the system with confidence at 0% point will have a margin to prevent system shutdown due to high voltage spike.

Gas Gauging>IT Cfg> Fast Scale Start SOC
    => See above response

    Gas Gauging>IT Cfg> Charge Hys V Shift
=> It helps the gauge to avoid Qmax update in the flat region after a charge. The gauge takes the OCV during relaxation after charge.
The Voltage drops during charging relaxation. If the OCV < Flat region upper bound + Charge Hys V Shift, then Qmax update is not allowed to avoid a inaccurate Qmax update occured by incorrect OCV information.
  • And Finally, Are the TCA Set and TCA clear values used in the Impedance tracking algorithm or are the purely just of "Alarm" flag set/reset only?
=> TCA set and clear is not used in IT algorithm. It gives just an Alarm flag.
  • Tim,
As you go through your evaluation, keep in mind that for Lead-acid and sometimes also for LiFePO4 cells you might be better off using bq34110.
  • Thank you for the information and this has answered my questions at this time.
