BQ27441-G1: how to permamently set the battery parameter like capacity, energy?

Part Number: BQ27441-G1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQSTUDIO

Hi There,

Our design has successfully incoporated the gas gauge chip BQ27441-G1A. The chip seems working as it's supposed to be, but we've encountered an issue of setting the battery parameter.

As you know, in normal operations, only four parameters need to be revised for certain type of battery, which are battery capacity, engery, terminate voltage and taper current.

Our battery is 18650 made by LG INR18650, 2500mAh/3.6V. I've tried to change the upper mentioned four parameters in the data memory through bqStudio (EV2300). However, once the power to the chip is lost, the revised data will be reverted back the default, which is 1340mAh.

I also tried to generate a golden image and burn it to the chip. Same issue. Is there anyway to permanently revise the parameters even when the power to the chip is lost?

Thanks.

Lian

  • Hi Lian,
This gauge is a ROM gauge meaning it does not have non- volatile memory. Your host needs to have NVM to store data from the gauge so that if power is cut off it can be reloaded on the gauge on power on. See the quick start guide for the bq27421 gauge which is a similar device for details on how to do this.

If your host doesn't have such then i would recommend you switch devices to a flash based gaug like the bq27520 or a guage with OTP like the bq27411

    thanks
