LM25117: Current Monitor Not Running

Part Number: LM25117
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LM5117

I have an implementation using LM25117 running continuous conduction mode with Vout = 3.3V

With a load of 2A, the Current Monitor output is practically at zero level.

With a load of 2.86A, the Current Monitor output generates a burst of pulses - see first image below

With a load of 3.66A, the Current Monitor output generates a DC level with a high amplitude AC component riding on top - see second image further below

[1] What is the reason for CM not to produce an output voltage proportional to the 2A load?

[2] Is there a condition where CM is not enabled (by design or by operation)

[3] Is the operation of CM dependent on the component selection of any other subsystems?

[4] What other components can be checked to verify the operation of the CM sub-circuit?

Regards,

Oscar.

  • Hello,
I will forward your question to responsible engineer.

  • The Current Monitor(CM) pin requires the LM5117 to be configured in FPWM mode. Please make sure the DEMB pin is pulled high.

the CM is dependent the following

    1. The output current
    2. Rs value
    3. Current sense gain (As)

Point 3. above (as) is typically 10 unless you have Current sense filter resistors on CS and CSG pins?

These points are reflected in the datasheet, please refer to Equation 14.

    Hope this helps?
