Question of Flyback controller

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: UCC28600, LM5023

Question 1.

I have questions about UCC28600.

Please tell us the minimum input voltage.

We need 6V of minimum input voltage.

Do you know recommended IC of  quasi-resonant controller other than UCC28600?

Question 2.

Please tell us the Flyback controller that meet the following conditions.

Vin(min) is under 6V.

Best regards,

Takahiro Nishizawa

  • Hello Nishizawa-san,

Can you please clarify what you mean by "minimum input voltage"?

Do you mean the minimum VDD voltage for the controller IC itself?
For UCC28600 QR controller, this is 8 V (typical), but needs to be 13 V (typ) first, to start.
Another QR controller is LM5023, where VDD can operate to as low as 7.5 V (typ), but needs to be 12.8 V (typ) first, to start.

If you mean minimum input voltage of the overall power converter, then I think you are asking about a DC-to-DC controller.
The UCC28600 and LM5023 are designed for AC-to-DC conversion using off-line quasi-resonant transition-mode (QR TM) operation.
Although the converter minimum input voltage can be relatively low in special design cases (maybe as low as 16 V) , I don't think these controllers are appropriate for operation from a steady-state 6-V source.

Please clarify your meaning for input voltage, and also please provide your application target maximum input voltage, output voltage and output current. This can help us to find an appropriate controller for your application.

    Ulrich
  • Thank you for your answer!

    input is battery.
    this voltage is 6~12V.

    (Primary)
    Battery(DC 6.0~12V)-----------(Isolation Flyback IC)------------72.4W(200V 0.362A)

    (Secondary)
    72.4W(200V 0.362A)-----------(Synchronous Rectifier Controller)-------------------------------

Do you know the best solution about Isolation Flyback IC and Synchronous Rectifier Controller?

  • Thank you for your answer!

I want to correct last post.

    input is battery.
    this voltage is 6~12V.

    (Primary)
    Battery(DC 6.0~12V)-----------(Isolation IC Flyback or feed-forward or Quasi-Resonant)------------72.4W(200V 0.362A)

    (Secondary)
    72.4W(200V 0.362A)-----------(Synchronous Rectifier Controller)-------------------------------
