TPS65094: Intel 563894 Apollo Lake Platform I2C PMIC Validation Plan- VCGI_DVID and VNN_DVID

Part Number: TPS65094
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: USB2ANY, IPG-UI

Hi ,

There is a problem for customer when testing the TPS650942 , following the test report 563894 from Intel. The Dynamic voltage can not be adjusted on the GUI, no matter what the voltage step is . Is there any guidance for test this item ? Is that achievable to adjust Vout on line through I2C of TPS650942? I mean , Is that possible to change the Vout register at any time , without restart?

  • Hi Cheng,

The VCCGI (BUCK2) and VNN (BUCK1) VID can be changed by I2C as long as the system is in S0 state (PMICEN, SLP_S4, SLP_S3, SLP_S0, and THERMTRIPB all are high). In states below S0, they are disabled (Figure 6-9 in the datasheet shows how they are disabled if SLP_S0 is low for example).

Depending on which VRTT they are using, the VID may need to be changed using an external I2C controller. This can be a USB2ANY or TPS650941EVM-116 with the IPG-UI or a 3rd party I2C controller. The PMIC can support either 1.8V or 3.3V I2C communication, but customer board might not. USB2ANY only supports 3.3V; the TPS650941EVM-116 has a 1.8V level shifter so that may be preferable.
