300W, 3Ph PFC

Hi
We have to design (AC-DC converter) 3 phase, 115Vac (Phase to neutral) to 24V, 10A DC output.
Every thing fine but we struggled  with THD and particularly 3rd, 5th and 7th harmonics at the input.

I request you to Please suggest us any reference circuit/ design/ IC to solve the above issue.

  • Hello A.S.Bhushan,

Can you please supply some more details of your requirements?

Why are you running such a small load from a 3 phase supply when you have a line to neutral voltage available of 115V ?
What is the application and your line distortion requirements ?

    Regards

    John

  • Thanks for your reply Mr.John.

It is the submarine application. Available supply is 100-180Vac , 3 phase, 4 wire only.
The module will be subjected to CE101 and CE102 tests of MIL-STD-461E.

  • Hi A.S.bhushan,
From previous queries I know that we do not have an analogue solution to your 3 phase requirements.
However there is a C2000 based solution that may be of interest.

You should contact the forum that handles queries on this part for further details

  • Thanks Mr. John,
I have seen "www.ti.com/.../TIDM-1000" in TI website. This is 2.4KW PFC.
But we need only 300W PFC. Any calculator or worksheet to simulate this for 300W?

  • Hi

The TI analogue PFC controller portfolio does not support three phase applications.

Normally three phase application are higher power level and customers are happy to use more sophisticated controllers like C2000.

An alternative approach for lower power three phase could be to use a three phase rectifier and use a single phase PFC controller like UCC2818 to boost the voltage to a constant DC voltage.

    Have you seen this article,

  • Thanks Mr. John and peter. For this low power applications, I tried three individual PFCs in three phases. It works. Fine. Thank you.
But , due Space constraint in my module, I am not able to use this.

Finally, I used Valleyfil rectifier circuit. This helped me in reduction of harmonics upto 80%.
