TPS22810: Rise time of TS22810

Part Number: TPS22810

Hi

My customer use TPS22810 under Vin=12V, Iout=200mA and inrush current=3.1A(rise time=3.5ms).
They think They reduce the inrush current by extending rise time=20~30ms.
But I found the following E2E.
Can my customer use TPS22810 above that condition?

Best regards,
Yokota
  • Hi Yokota,

There is no limit on the maximum CT capacitor / rise time that can be used, but as mentioned in the post you referenced, it is possible for the device to enter thermal shutdown if the rise time / inrush current is too high. Wile the inrush current in your case will only be ~0.5A, this will still be putting 6W of power across the device for a short period of time. The best way to see if the solution will be feasible is by testing it with your actual load. For a rise time of 25ms, you can use a CT capacitor of about 120nF.

    Thanks,
