BQ27520-G4: EVM stopped working

I have a customer with the following symptoms of the broken bq27520-G4 EVM, that stopped working recently:

They used the EV2400 to connect to the bq27520EVM and did not get any response on BQStudio (not auto-detecting gauge), when it was previously communicating.

They also connected the scope to monitor the I2C lines between the two and only see EV2400 traffic attempting to talk to the bq27520EVM.

They are providing 3.6V to the bq27520EVM and do not notice abnormally high current draw.

When they connect the EV2400 directly to the gauge I2C lines on their NRU they can get gauge communication (bq27520-G4 read and write).

Any thoughts on what may be the issue and how to get the EVM working again?

Hello Nadeem,

Can they post a picture of their setup with the bq27520-G4 EVM and the EV2400. I'm surprised that their host can communicate with the EV2400 cannot.

I would order a new EV2400 to see if that solves the problem.

The abnormally high current consumption could be caused by the EV2400 I2C connections to the board.

Hello Kang,

Looks like there was an parsing error while programming the EVM with an updated DFFS file through BQStudio.

Any suggestions on how to recover?

When the bq27520EVM is connected to bqStudio, I see the DeviceType returned as 0x6000 and FW_Version 0x6000.

Any ideas on how to recover?

Hi Ryan,

Try cycling power on the chip and then reprogram with the default firmware which you can extract from a brand new device.. if it doesn't recover you will have to replace the IC.
