LM5576: I want to Confirm of the resistance and capacitance problem of LM5576

Part Number: LM5576

Hi All

We used LM5576 Vin from 60V to Vout 12V, I saw the reference design as blow,

(1)resistance R3、R4、R5、R6 is 0805 package.,Can  I use 0603 to change?

(2) Capacitor  C3、C4、C5、C7、C11 Permissible Voltag is 100V,can I use lower Permissible Voltag capacitor   to change?

  • Chen,

    1. Yes you can use 0603 resistors for R3, R4, R5, and R6. We like bigger resistors because they're easier to solder if we have to debug or change the design to test something. You can always use a smaller package if the power dissipated does not exceed the rated power (to your margins).

    2. You can use any voltage rating for your capacitors as long as the capacitor voltage does not exceed this rating at any time. Keep in mind, the rated capacitance will reduce as the voltage across the capacitor increases. A higher voltage rating means the capacitor will not lose as much capacitance for a given voltage.

For example, 5V across a 6.3V rated capacitor might bring a 10uf cap down to 3uf. 5V across a 25V rated cap might bring it down to ~8 or 9uF.
