TPS53667: About OCP threshold

Part Number: TPS53667

Hi,

The threshold of OCP detected by IMON is written in the data sheet as 125% × IMAX.
Is this threshold a peak detection?

When the ripple current increases due to the change of the peripheral constant,
Considering the sum of peak currents considering ripple at 1 to 6 phases,
there is a possibility that the threshold may be exceeded.
Can peak detection with ripple current added be detected by this OCP function?

Best regards,
Yuto Sakai

  • There are two different over-current protections built in the controller. The first one is done by taking instantaneous phase current and then take its valley point to compare with the OCL setting listed in page 9 to make sure every phase current will be limited in any cases. The other OCP is the one you asked is actually implemented in digital domain by taking the digital IMON to compare with the OCP threshold, which is 125% of IMAX. There are some analog and digital filtering for this digital IMON, and the rough averaging time constant would be ~200us, so the ripple impacts to OCP will be negligible with this implementation. Hope it is clear.
