BQ24040: How to Recover from Short Circuit Protection due to over discharge? Or how to avoid triggering the Short Circuit Protection?

Part Number: BQ24040

Hello

We are using BQ24040 in our product.  When it has been idle for a long time without charging, short circuit protection can happen due to over discharge. How can we recover from this situation when it happens?

If it can't be recovered, how do we avoid this situation (over discharge caused by short-circuit protection)?

We are looking for advises about hardware and system design rather than requiring users to charge in a timely manner.

Thanks,

Jack

  • Hi Jack
The battery has a short circuit detection threshold of 1.8V, at or below this point the battery current is limited to 7.5mA.
When voltage increase above this point the current will increase to pre-charge phase, 10% of the fast charge current.
At 3V the unit will transition to fast charge.

Many batteries have a protector circuit that will disconnect the battery when voltage fall to a low level. Is this the case with your battery?
