TPS61282A: Abs Max Current Spec

Part Number: TPS61282A
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS61230A

Hello,

I would like to use this part in an application where Vin=3.3, Vout=3.8, Load=2A with 2.6A bursts. Will this device work here?

I'm concerned because the abs max table says average switch current can't exceed 1.8A.

As long as junction temperature isn't exceeded, can we uses this for 3.3 to 3.8V at 2A (2.6A peak)?

Regards,
Ryan B.

  • is the 2A pulse current or average current? is the load GSM/GPRS?
  • Hi Jasper,

The 2A is average current, while the 2.6A is pulsed current.

The application is a cellular modem card.

The customer is very sized constrained, so small package and high switching frequency is needed.

Can we use this device? If not, which device do you recommend?

    Regards,
    Ryan Bishop

  • the limitation in the 1.8A is caused by the life time consideration of this device. if the current is 1.8A and Tj is 105oC, the life time of this device is 100k hours. if the current is 5.5A and Tj is 105oC, the life time is 15% of 100k, which is 15K hours. so you may need to check if 15K hours operating life time is acceptable for this application.

you can have a look TPS61230A, efficiency of this device is better, package is also small.
