BQ27530-G1: bq27530-G1 and bq24161 - cell temperature protection

Dear team,

We'd like to use the bq27530-G1 and bq24161 chipset for battery charging and monitoring in one of our products. But from datasheets I was unable to determine whether this solution provides general cell over temperature protection by disconnecting the battery from the rest of the system (no external FET for the bq24161 and supplying the bq27530 from pack). Could you please clarify this issue?

Hi Bartosz
The bq27530 does not have an AFE to drive a charge and discharge fet to disconnect them in the event of a safety condition. If you desire such functionality, i would recommend checking out the bq27742 or the bq27750.

Thank you for the answer, but what I wanted to know is whether the battery can be disconnected from the system by the bq24161 Power Path Manager which is controlled by the BQ27530-G1 thru I2C?

No, all the gauge does is communicate charging conditions to the charger.
