LM5116: full synchronous operation&Diode Emulation

Part Number: LM5116

Hi

In LM5116 datasheet mentioned,thanks.

1.What is mean full synchronous operation?

2.How the Diode Emulation works?

  • I am passing this to our LM5116 expert, Tim
  • Hi Mike,

Fully synchonous operation means that the low-side FET conducts for the full 1 - D interval of the buck converter. Thus, both positive and negative inductor current occur at no-load or light-load conditions, and constant switching frequency is maintained.

Diode emulation mode turns off the low-side FET when the inductor current reaches zero, thus preventing negative inductor current. This improves efficiency at light loads (as Fsw is reduced).

    Regards,
    Tim
